FLUXNANO – MANAGEMENT OF BIOLOGICAL TEST DATA IN A NANOTECHNOLOGY LABORATORY – COMPLEMENTARY MATERIAL

ABSTRACT

Laboratory data management is a critical process that becomes more complex every day. To facilitate this process a system to obtain and treat this information is needed. The volume of information generated by a modern lab is immense, and therefore it is necessary to organize this information and all laboratory processes. One type of tool to accomplish this task are LIMS, or Laboratory Information Management Systems. In this work we will model and implement the workflow of the Laboratório de Saúde Meio Ambiente e Segurança do CTNANO/UFMG using a workflow based LIMS. This work contributes to the understanding of the relation between LIMS, laboratory workflows and biological data management. It also provides important information to research institutions interested in improving their lab data management. It presents an opportunity to explore the advantages and limitations of using a LIMS in a real research context.

Keywords: LIMS, laboratory data management, nanotechnology

(A) DAF Workflow – Data from toxicity tests with D. magna: This workflow constitutes an important component of the primary workflows group, designed for the organization of laboratory experiments.
ETX Workflow – Ecotoxicity tests with R. subcapitata: Tasked with overseeing toxicity tests related to nanoproducts utilizing Raphidocelis subcapitata algae
CTTX Workflow – Citotoxicity tests with mammal cells: Responsible for overseeing cytotoxicity tests involving mammalian cells, the CTTX workflow contain 10 activities.
CDM Workflow – Daphnia magna Cultivation: This workflow is dedicated to managing data derived from Daphnia magna cultivation used in experiments and serves as a complement to the DAF workflow.
SOC Workflow – Daphnia magna Cultures: Designed for managing data related to the survival of Daphnia magna used in experiments, the SOC workflow complements the DAF workflow.
CRP Workflow – Hazardous Waste Control: Responsible for managing data associated with hazardous waste generated during laboratory tests, the CRP workflow manages the disposal of hazardous or non-hazardous waste from the SMS laboratory.
PUB Workflow – Publications: This workflow is dedicated to managing data related to publications stemming from tests or experiments conducted by the laboratory.

COL Workflow – Collaborators: Responsible for managing data pertaining to collaborators of the SMS laboratory, the COL Workflow features a single activity.
SAA Workflow – Supplies and Samples Control: This workflow is dedicated to managing data associated with supplies and samples used in laboratory experiments.
EQP Workflow – Lab Equipments: This workflow is designed to oversee the management of laboratory equipment, containing information related to equipment location, identification number, batch details, calibration history, last calibration performed, and details about the technician responsible for the calibration.
EQR Workflow – Team and Responsibilities: Created to manage team-related data, the EQR Workflow was developed to systematically organize all pertinent team information including but not limited to personal data, academic background, addresses, blood types, allergies as well as the responsabilities of each personal in the lab.
